Story

lakshyam Bose (Jagapati Babu) is a sincere and powerful cop. Chandu (Gopichand) is his younger brother. Shankar (Yashpal Yadav) is a mastermind criminal who evades cops with his knowledge in law. Bose is after Shankar. And Shankar is forced to eliminate Bose. The rest of the story is all about how Chandu takes revenge on Shankar.

Artists Performance

dubaiseenu Gopichand: Gopichand has shown tremendous variety in his histrionics. He is extremely casual and gave an effortless performance in romantic episodes with Anushka. He is intense in emotional scenes and his performance in the death scene of his brother is exemplary. He mastered the art of making fights believable. His dancing ability improved in this film and there is fluidity in his dance movements.

lakshyamOthers: Jagapati Babu has given a very potential performance as an honest cop and as a family man. His role is not a guest role, but a full length character. Jagapati excels as dynamic cop. Anushka is very good as female lead. She adds color to the film with her looks. Yashpal Sharma is commendable as villain. It is a variety role for budding actor Amit. Raghubabu entertains again as the villain's sidekick. Brahmanandam's separate comedy track is relieving though it is loud. The role given to Asish Vidyardhi is different from the roles played by him in the past. Kalyani is adequate.

Technical Departments:

dubaiseenuStory - screenplay - direction: Story of the film has little resemblance to Hindi flick Ghayal. But the storyline developed for this film has all emotions. The debutant director Srivas handled the film like an experienced director. He handled the first half adequately by blending comedy, romance, action and family drama. But he could not maintain the same grip in second half and the revenge episodes. The screenplay in first half has some amount of freshness. But the director stuck to old formula while narrating the second half. The shot in which Gopichand shoots cop by sitting on Anushka's two wheeler is well conceived.

lakshyamOther departments: Dialogues by M Ratnam are adequate though dialogues written for emotional scenes are way too lengthy. Music scored by Mani Sharma is good, but the placement of songs should have been better. Fights are neat. Cinematography is fine. Editing of the film is smooth. Production values are excellent.

dubaiseenuAnalysis: First half is entertaining with perfect blend of entertainment and emotion. The tempo goes down a bit in second half because of formulaic narration and predictability in the story. First half is entertaining and second half is heavy with action drama. Debutant director Srivas is competent and handled the film like a veteran. The positive points of the film are terrific performances of Gopichand & Jagapati Babu and the commercial elements. On the flipside, the climax should have been more intense and the runtime should have been more compact. For the commercial point of view, the film is decent. We have to wait and see if Lakshyam hits the target or not.

Story

Lakshmi Narasimha (Bala Krishna) is a strict police officer who does not mind making his own rules to bring justice to the public. Once he was indirectly affected by the goon Dharma Bhiksham (Prakash Raj) which costs him his sister and lots of properties of his native village. But Dharma Bhiksham does not know that it was Lakshmi Narasimha who got affected by him.

After a few months, Lakshmi Narasimha is transferred to Vijayawada. Dharma Bhiksham rules the mafia world from Vijayawada. Though, a strict police officer - he compromises with Dharma Bhiksham and takes bribes to the tune of one and half crores. He takes the bribes and then invests all the money into rehabilitating his natvie village affected by Dharma Bhiksham. Dharma Bhiksham comes to know about it and rebels against Lakshmi Narasimha. The rest of the story is all about how Lakshmi Narasimha puts an end to the life of Dharma Bhiksham using illegal methods.

Artists Performance

Bala Krishna: Bala Krishna is looking extremely handsome in the police attire. He is pretty romantic in teasing scenes with Asin. He is excellent in emotional scenes, especially in the one where he utters ferocious dialogues with Ahuti Prasad before climax to an exhilarating effect. He did well in the 'Jadakotti' and 'Neetoti Naaku panundi' dance numbers. Balayya did well in fights department as well.

Asin: Asin is tender in this film. She has more footage in the 1st half due to the love episode. She also exposed her cleavage in a couple of romantic scenes compared to her earlier films. Sunitha dubbed her voice.

Others: Prakash Raj is OK as Dharmabhiksham. Krishna Bhagavan provided some entertainment through one-liners. Sunil had a separate comedy track. Rakshita is negligible in the first song of the film. Viswanath acted as father of Bala Krishna. Ahuti Prasad got a decent role as commissioner. MS Narayana is wasted. Duvvasi Mohan is fair. Devi Charan's character went unnoticed.

Technical Departments:

Story: Story of the film is a personal revenge theme with social message in it. We have seen several cop stories hitting marquee last year like Seetayya, Inspector and Shivamani. And this film is definitely better than the other films

Screenplay - direction: Screenplay of the film is OK. The direction of the film has mass orientation with a tinge of stylishness. Director Jayant handled quite a few scenes well, especially the ones where Bala Krishna follows abnormal ways to get his work done. However, he should have got the emotions right during the flashback episode of the film, which paved the way for the entire story to happen. The mass and action episodes are excessively stuffed in second half. Jayant should have taken care of the editing of the film. The total film's duration is 3 hours and 10 minutes.

Dialogues: Dialogues by Paruchuri brothers are good. There are pretty good punch dialogues for Bala Krishna as the story approaches climax. There is one dialogue in this film ""Kumara Swamy, Venkata Swamy, Narayana Swamy, Kanaka Swamy, Amara Swamy ani maa amma puttina biddalaku peru pedithe .. andaru puritilone chani payoaaru. Naa koduku champe vaadu kaavali kaani … chache vaadu kaakudadu ani naaku Lakshmi narsimha swamy ani pettindi'. This dialogue is uttered 3 times in film. It had a little effect when done during the start of film. It was repeated 2nd time before interval and it had good effect. During the climax of the film, the same dialogue got terrific applause.

Music: Music by Mani Sharma is of typical Bala Krishna's style. These songs are impressive when you watch along with the visuals than when you listen to audio. The 2nd song (Andamlo Andhra Kosta - a melody shot in NZ) is cool. The 3rd song (Jadakotti) steals the show. Last song 'Neetoti Naaku panundi' is racy. Background score is good. The first song intriduces hero in a charming style.

Other departments: Cinematography by Steadycam Prasad and VSR Swamy is good. Editing by Marthand K Venkatesh should have been crisp.

Analysis: First half of the film is entertaining. Second half is OK. The interval bang is smooth. The flashback episode should have had more punch. The second half is heavily loaded with mass elements. The duration of film should be trimmed by a good 30 minutes to make the film more crisp. Bala Krishna's terrific performance is going to be the biggest strength of the film. And it would entertain the masses very well.

Trade Talk: The film opened with hit talk everywhere. This film is expected to be a good hit film after 3 years (Narasimha Naidu) for Bala Krishna. The range of film would be depend on how relatively other Sankranthi films fare!CLICK HERE

Story

Lakshmi KalyanamRamu (Kalyan Ram) is very fond of his maradalu Lakshmi (Kaajal). Ramu is an uneducated guy who works in farms. Lakshmi's father is a wealthy guy and is the president of the village. Their village has feuds with a neighboring village. Giri (Ajay) is from the other village and he wants to marry Lakshmi. But Lakshmi and Ramu are in love. Ramu has to win a race over Giri to marry Lakshmi. The rest of the story is all about the hurdles Ramu faces in order to wed Lakshmi.

Artists Performance

Lakshmi Kalyanam Kalyan Ram : Kalyan Ram succeeded in giving fabulous performance as principled lover whose love for Lakshmi is limitless. There is natural flow in his dialogue delivery, which is new compared to his earlier films. He could tell mass dialogues in an appealing way in this film. It is always important for any actor to believe in the character and behave like that wholeheartedly. For the first time I am seeing such kind of intensity in Kalyan Ram's action in Lakshmi Kalyanam film.

Lakshmi KalyanamAjay: When we have absolutely no Telugu guy playing the role of villain in Telugu films, we should appreciate Teja for making Ajay a fitting reply to all those non-Telugu speaking villains who are thronging Telugu film industry. He is extremely good with intense dialogue delivery and great performance. The way he delivered 'vachama' series of dialogues is pretty impressive. He is the next Gopichand of Telugu cinema. And I sincerely hope that he wont fall into the lure of hero roles and wish that he continues as villain material. He has great body, cool diction and right expressions. He could be the right Telugu speaking villain we all have been expecting on Telugu screen for a long time.

Lakshmi KalyanamOthers: Kaajal is good. And she wore half sarees most of the time. Actress Raasi dubbed her role and she is just ok. Upcoming actress Suhasini did a small role. Srinivasa Reddy got a meaty role. Sayaji Shinde did the role of heroine father. He is good though sounds bit overboard while doing dialogue delivery at times with the same kind of pitch. Raghubabu excelled as the sidekick of Sayaji Shinde who keeps on digging at his boss. Telangana Sakuntala and Prabha are adequate. Harsha Vardhan did a comedy role as the NRI guy who loves heroine.

Technical Departments:

Lakshmi KalyanamStory - screenplay - direction: Story of the film is old-fashioned and formula ridden. The stories of two villages being faction ridden is old fashioned. Screenplay in the first half is good. Direction of Teja is neat (if you ignore second half). Teja has the unique style of extracting great performances from his actors. It is a renown fact that actors who gave genuine performances under his direction (Uday Kiran & Nitin) could not repeat the same kind of intensity in other films. It speaks volumes about Teja's ability to bring conviction into the actors when they work for him. His characterizations are unique with a bit of eccentricity thrown into the characters of hero (Kalyan Ram) and villain (Ajay).

Lakshmi KalyanamOther departments: The songs scored by RP Patnaik falls short of what you expect from the combination of Teja - RP Patnaik. But background music is nice. Dialogues by Paruchuri brothers are good. They penned right dialogues for this film. They did not stay away from writing dialogues that refers to father and grandfather of the hero, at the same time made sure that they gave a counter dialogue like 'enthakalam chettu peru cheppukuntav. Nuvvem sadhinchav'. The punch dialogue of 'Watch Podhi' (I am sure that Teja penned this dialogue) is good. Cinematography by AR Krishna is compelling. First song of the film is pretty good. The graphics work in 3rd song (last song of 1st half) should have been better. The satire song of Harsha doing his own death bed should have been handled better. Production values of the film are good.

Lakshmi KalyanamAnalysis: Kalyan Ram and Ajay are revelations in this film. The movie starts with a black and white session telling the flashback of hero and heroine in the childhood. This flashback establishes that hero should make sure that heroine should never cry in her life. The first half is handled well with good heroism. The episode that leads to interval is handled very well. But the same cannot be told about the second half. The tempo in the movie starts falling down from the moment the friend betrays hero. Because of the promise made by hero in the interval episode, he becomes passive which reduced heroism in the second half. On a whole, Lakshmi Kalyanam makes an average flick that has orientation towards B and C centers.CLICK HERE

Story

Lakshmi Narayana (Venkatesh) is an elder son in a family with 3 brothers and 2 sisters. Lakshmi owns a factory that is worth 100’s of crores. Janardhan (Sayaji Shinde) - an former employee of Lakshmi Industries - plans to take revenge on Lakshmi by creating difference in his family and succeeds in it. The rest of the story is all about how Lakshmi unites his family members and wins back his lady love Nandini (Nayana Tara).

Artists Performance

Venkatesh: Venkatesh has donned a role with two shades. The first one as too-good-to-believe and self-sacrificing brother and the second one as an angry young man. He did very well. He excelled a lot in the sentimental scenes. He is good as the lover in the flashback episode too. Venkatesh danced with gay abandon in Lakshmi Bava song.

Others: Nayana Tara did the role of main heroine. She got an ample footage in the flashback episode and she did well. Charmme is limited to 3 duets and does not have any importance in the storyline in this film. Sayaji Shinde is good as the main villain. Pradeep Rawat is adequate as Calcutta don. Sunil’s comedy is OK. The comedy thread of Venu Madhav and Telangana Sakuntala is partly good. Rajiv Kanakala, Sharvanand, Satya Prakash and Revathi are adequate.

Technical Departments:

Screenplay - direction: Screenplay by VV Vinayak is OK. He has his unique way of elevating heroism of the hero through the dialogues of other characters. There are fights in the beginning, climax and flashback episodes of the film. But what raises the heroism are the dialogues uttered by various characters (sisters, mother and Sunil) in critical scenes of the film. However, Vinayak should have taken care of second half well where the tempo seem to have gone down.

Other Departments: Story of the film is routine and has resemblance to various old Telugu films with brother-sentiment. Dialogues are average. Songs by Ramana Gogula are very good when you listen to them on the stereo. ‘Lakshmi Bava’ song is a highlight in the film in terms of picturization and placement. Mani Sharma provided background music. RaNa Daggubati supervised the fx in this film. The cartoon version of Venu Madhav - Sakuntala fight and car-robo animation in Andhra Mirchi song are good. Production values are neat.

Analysis: First half of the film is OK and the scenes before interval are good. The second half divulges into a entirely different flashback episode. There are certain good moments in the film and has got orientation towards masses and family crowds. However, the VV Vinayak could not blend in Venkatesh’s family image and Vinayak’s mass taking in a smooth way. The biggest advantage of this film is that Lakshmi is the only mass film for the entire season of Sankranthi which gives good market penetration in C and D centers as well in the first week itself.

Story

This film stars with showing the births Siddhardha Roy (Pawan Kalyan) and Madhumita (Bhumika Chawla) in Kolkata and Kaikaluru respectively. They grow up and the scene changes and this couple are of 20 years old now. Siddardha Roy, who is fondly called as Siddu, is all set to go to Canada after securing the admission for doing his MS. On the other hand, Madhumita, who is fondly called as Madhu, is all set to engage a guy whom her father has chosen.

But the destiny has other plans for them. Siddu meets with an accident and gets hospitalized. The guy with whom Madhu is supposed to get engaged elopes with his secret sweetheart. And Madhu and Siddu get an admission in the Nizam college of Hyderabad.

They meet each other and find that they have lots of things in common and are made for each other. But there is one catch. They want others to express the love to them than expressing themselves.

One fine evening, during exams time, this couple wanted to do combined study. As Madhu is reading a book on 'Internet', our Siddu joins her with a book on 'Cobol'. Madhu is sensually dressed with a black transparent saree which made Siddu voyeur at her novel which gets exposed due to the breeze of air. Madhu gets suspicious and realizes that Siddu is ogling at her novel, in deed. She asks him about what he is doing and he denies the act of ogling at her. A small issue gets blown out of proportion and their inflated ego takes over their hearts and they decide that they are no more friends. They do not share any relationship.

They are brought back together as Madhu's best friend Lakshmi and Siddu's best friend Babu are in deep love and Lakshmi's father Gunduba Satti threatens Lakshmi of dire consequences if she continues her relationship with Babu. Madhu and Siddu decide that though they are united to save their friends, they individually share no relationship.

They marry off Lakshmi and Babu. As told by a background voice in the biginning of the film, it is sure that Siddu and Madhu are going to marry each other. But the most exiting thing is about this film that the turn of events they have gone through.

You must watch this film on a big screen with DTS effect to experience this amazingly essayed celluloid poetry.

Performances:

Artists:

Pawan Kalyan: "One-Man-Show" is the apt word that describes the role of Pawan Kalyan in this film. He has shown finesse in each and every department. Be it dialogue delivery, fighting, singing or dancing. This film has four fights, which are extraordinary. And the specialty of these fights is that Pawan Kalyan himself composes them all. They are very real and pretty powerful. The dialogue delivery and modulation of Pawan Kalyan is impeccable. So are the dances in this film, which are done with lot of grace.

Bhumika Chawla: Bhumika is very cute in this film. She matched Pawan with her performance.

Technical Departments:

Screenplay & direction: SJ Surya, who made a terrific film Vaali in the past, has come up with another winner this time. There is no story in this film. The whole 2 hours and 45 minutes of this story runs with a neat screenplay. He has done an extraordinary job as screenplay wright.

Music: The rerecording of this film is excellent and event the minute change of expression on the face of the actor is synchronized with the superb orchestration of background music in this film. Songs of this film are very good.

Dialogues: Rajendra Kumar's dialogues, which are pretty comedy oriented, make the viewers giggle all the time.

Songs: In addition to the six songs below, there are two other English straight songs for which Pawan Kalyan has done ultimate dances. One of that being the Macerena song that comes after the movie is over as a backdrop to the credit titles

* Ye Sarah Jahan: This song comes as an introduction to Pawan Kalyan and his Good Samaritan attitude of respecting the country and citizens and bashing up the evil elements. This song in shot the streets of Kolkota.
* Premate: This song is shot in the luster locales of New Zealand.
* Ammaye: This is another highlight of the film, which is shot in the sets erected.
* Aaduvari Matalaku: This is the cutest song of the lot in this film. Shot in the backdrop of luster locales, it shows Pawan Kalyan narrating the way women behave to his pet dog as Bhumika Chawla looks on.
* Chelia Chelia: This song of the film just happens when thing started to go right for the couple.
* Holi Holi: This song is a teaser for Bhumika Chawla that has Pawan and the vamp Mumtaj doing maverick dances.

Photography: PC Sreeram's work is another asset for the film.

Production: AM Ratnam, the uncompromising producer has compromised on some thing this time. Quality, that is. No wonder, this film has taken one year in making. AM Ratnam deserves another pat on his back for delivering another wholesome entertainer, a remade film this time.

Analysis: This film has 70% of comedy, 20% of songs and 10% of action in the backdrop of undercurrent love. Once, I started watching this film, I forgot about everything else and immersed myself in the inscrutable story that is unfolding on the screen. This film is an urbane one and has got all the ingredients the youth looks for. Pawan Kalyan is going from strength to strength and this is the best film done by him so far. The success of this film is unstoppable. But the magnitude of success of this film depends on how hardcore masses embrace this delicate urban youth film. Only the time will tell.

Tialpiece: I had to restrain myself from watching this film for the matinee again, as I had to rush to idlebrain studio to give you the review. I am jetting off to watch the film for the first show again, though!

KSHANA KSHANAM

Here is the start of a series that throws light on some of the box-office failures that deserve to be ranked as some of the best movies of Telugu industry. With it, idlebrain.com want to highlight the efforts that went into the making of the movie, so that our current generation would never ever forget these long and forgotten gems.

Kshanakshanam

Follow up is the most difficult act after the initial foray. There is an inherent paradox with the follow up act. It has to adhere to the original path so much that any slight deviation from the original is instantly rejected and yet it has to stand out on its own to be treated, graded and rated on its own merits, lest it is judged as an encore to the original. On the lines of showbiz's famous saying "Dying is easy, but comedy is hard", it can said that "original is a breeze but follow up is a gale". Sighting of the Haley's comet, occurrence of the blue moon, following a stupendously successful Siva with an equally brilliant Kshana Kshanam are some of those that are usually held either in high regard or are treated with awe. That somebody could conjure up such an completely varied but equally entertaining act, was a testament to Varma's penchant for variety and willingness to go against the grain.

Road movies do not conform with the usual telugu film formula. The period within which the events take place, the rapidity in the plot and nature of urgency in the storytelling flies in the face of the standard Telugu film period where events transpire over years and conclusions are usually causal, over long intervals of time. The fact this genre wasn't attempted after Bapu's Bangaru Pichika (1968), until Kshana Kshanam, (with a little exception to Andala Ramudu (1973) by Bapu again) alone was indicative that Telugu audience wasn't quite receptive of this expedited mindset. The timeline, or lackthereof, which is often real life like and not ala reel life in a typical road movie, has events happening at break-neck pace with not much time splices allocated for real character development, which throws it in a boon/bane dilemma. The positive side being, the audience is more interested in the events that transpire around the characters and the situation that the characters are thrown than the characters themselves, and the flip side - the characters tend to remain one-dimensional with a aim-apparatus-procedure-conclusion modus operandi.

Borrowing the setup and the mood from Robert Zemeckis' Romancing the Stone, Kshana Kshanam had the same lead characters' mannerisms and approaches, funny, yet dangerous villain, his bumbling henchmen, the comic cops and its share of colorful peripheral characters. Treating these interesting characters in a straight-faced and a deadpan way, Varma lends enough credibility to the characters' motivations and prevents them from slipping fast into a typical comedy fare with an utterly ridiculous premise. The rapid but seamless transition between the action and the comic moods, the pacing of the movie - deliberately slow at parts in the jungle to establish the interplay and moving at break neck speeds while it hurries to a conclusion to heighten the tension, brings to sharp relief Varma's clarity in vision and command in execution. The age old clichés of Telugu cinema that beg to be mocked viz., hero's standard introduction via a fight sequence, his causes for choosing his lifestyle, his switch from rescuing the heroine from goons one moment to kidnapping her the very next moment, his pointing the gun at the villain threatening to slash heroine's throat and the like were turned on their heads and given delightful spins, making the audience consciously self-aware for having patronized those for so long. Subtlety was another key aspect of the screenplay. The characters were written so delightfully subtle that it was more a case of downplaying the usual heavy-handed emotions than underplaying the same. Where most of the Telugu movies indulge in some kind of morality play, Kshana Kshanam has roles that tread either side of the good/bad demarcation with equal ease, which make them more identifiable and endearing - the hero trying to make good of a once in a life-time score, the villain's distaste for an unnecessary loss of life, the villain trying to be more compassionate and understanding than violent and stubborn.

Technical aspects, the bar of which was raised to great heights with Siva, were unobtrusively brilliant through out Kshana Kshanam - be it as highly visible as S.Gopal Reddy's (who also co-produced) photography or as subliminal as Arun Bose's audiography. Gopal Reddy who had a great deal of success with Siva honed his craft even sharper with Kshana Kshanam. If the mood was somber, dark and menacing in Siva, it couldn't be anymore contrasting in Kshana Kshanam - cheerful, bright and normal. If he played with lighting a lot in Siva, he chose angling and thus framing in Kshana Kshanam. The other stand out aspect of Kshana Kshanam was the excellent background score of Keeravani. Brushing the equally fantastic tunes aside, Keeravani's carefully orchestrated re-recording was brought into full for(c)e within the first 15 dialogue-less minutes of the movie. The score for the climax sequence on the train which was grand, elaborate and rich, marked the successful passing of the mantle from Illayaraja, a peerless re-recordist in his era, to Keeravani.

Siva at first and Kshana Kshanam following suite, marked the beginning of auteuristic film making in telugu movies and Kshana Kshanam remained one of the best screenplays ever written in telugu. Though it can never be determined if this movie was way ahead of its time, Kshana Kshanam remained one of the best that could sustain the passage of time - the irony on the timeline notwithstanding!

Krishna Krishna (Ravi Teja) is a happy-go-lucky guy in Vijayawada. He falls in love at fight sight with Sandhya (Trisha) who visits from Hyderabad. Sandhya is the sister of Shinde (Sayaji Shinde) who is a popular builder and mafia man. Jakka (Mukul Dev) is another mafia don who wants to marry Sandhya against her wishes. The film is all about how Krishna puts an end to Jakka and marries Sandhya.

Artists Performance

Krishna Ravi Teja is extremely energetic in the role of Krishna. He makes sure that he introduces new antics with each of his new films. In this film too he made sure that he entertained the crowds. Trisha is good in the female lead and the dubbing done to her is also good. Debutant actor Mukul Dev is impressive. The man who steals the show in the film is none but Brahmanandam. He is extremely hilarious in certain episodes. Sunil is alright. Sayaji Shinde and Jaya Prakash Reddy are adequate. MS Narayana’s comedy thread should have been handled better.

Technical Departments:

KrishnaStory - screenplay - direction: Story of the film is an old fashioned one. The screenplay of the film is good. VV Vinayak who proved himself as a good mass director strengthens his grip on comedy with this film. The way he created episodes for Brahmanandam are praise worthy and he made sure that there is no boring moment in the film.

KrishnaOther departments: Music by Chakri is mediocre. But VV Vinayak makes those songs appear good with nice picturization. Cinematography by Chota K Naidu is excellent. Dialogues by Akula Siva are good. Action work by Ram Lakshman is adequate. Production values by Kasi Viswanadham are nice.

KrishnaAnalysis: First half of the film is breezy with nice mix of action and comedy. The second half’s graph goes down a bit during the flashback episode and pre climax scenes. But the director brought back the film on track with interesting climax by blasting a couple of fully-loaded lorries. The plus point of the film are comedy by Brahmanandam and Ravi Teja. VV Vinayak who disappointed us with his last film Yogi can have a sigh of relief now. On a whole, Krishna (the power of Indrakeeladri) is a decent entertainer.

Krishnarjuna Telugu Movie
Krishnarjuna Telugu Movie
Krishnarjuna Telugu Movie

Krishnarjuna Telugu Movie
Krishnarjuna Telugu Movie

Krishnarjuna was rumored to have been inspired from Bruce Almighty starring Jim Carrey. But the movie contains just one idea, if that, from the Hollywood production including the styling of God played by Morgan Freeman (and Nagarjuna in this). For those who watched the original and expected humor, entertainment and a subtle message in it will be disappointed. For those who saw the posters and expected humor, entertainment and Nag-Vishnu combo to rock will be totally disappointed.
Plot

Arjuna is born in a temple with his mother succumbing in labor. The villagers believe that to be impure so they close the temple. He and his grandmother serve a family and make a living. His job is to look after Satya, the college-going arrogant sister of his employer. She gets a suitor, Prem, but an astrologer reads her birth-charts and predicts doom for her husband. So Arjun is made the scapegoat and is wedded to Satya. There is no bliss, in contrast, the family harasses him so that he dies and Satya can marry Prem without a glitch. When his grandmother dies unable to tolerate the situation, he tries to follow her. But God intervenes.
Story Screenplay and Direction

The cool quotient generated by God in a dashing white suit is all lost because of the predominance of superstition in the movie. The slow first half is justified if the second half, after Nagarjuna's entry, had been any better. Unfortunately it's not. The introduction scene of Nagarjuna is the similar to Morgan Freeman in the original, but that's where the similarity ends. But instead of going uphill from there, the narration falls flat.

Most of the first half is spent in showing the harassment that Arjun and his grandmother tolerate from Satya's family. A little vulgar 'humor' comes in the form of Brahmanandam, who plays an astrologer and his voluptuous wife. Go figure. Then we have Mamta Mohandas with a haughty expression wearing corsets and mini-skirts in some town/village (why???). Her teeth-gritting suitor and that whole track trying to open the temple door just drags.

The scenes showing Arjun's unwavering dedication to Satya's family and the sentiment in scenes featuring Manorama works. Nagarjuna's appearance and Mohanbabu as a Fakir are impressive. Other than that, the direction and script are weak, and so are the performances as a consequence.
Performances

Vishnu looks the part, but the emotional scenes lack conviction. He could do with a NTR-worthy makeover. The charm that one saw in Dhee is totally missing, and so is the energy level. Nagarjuna perks up the movie a little bit, stopping it from going completely downhill. But his scenes could have been executed so much better. Still, he makes a good God. Mamta Mohandas sings well and has a good figure. Acting skills are so-so. Manorama is convincing, as is Mohan Babu's cameo.

Song and Dance 'Buggalerrabadda' and 'Yamaranju Meeda' stand out in an otherwise disappointing compilation by Keeravani. Ditto with the picturization.

Last Word Disappointing direction from P. Vasu. All major aesthetic and commercial elements, from narration, performances, music, romance and humor suffer as a result. The saving grace if any is Nagarjuna's role, two tracks and a little of the sentiment and faith in the other protagonist's character which works to an extent.

Story

The film opens with the Khadgam title track that shows the greatness and history of India. There are a few Ariel moving shots of Charminar. Koti (Ravi Teja) is a hero wannabe. He has only one goal in life. That is to become a hero and to be called as 'Babu' by the industry people. Amjad (Prakash Raj) is an auto driver. Though extremely religious Muslim, Amjad is very patriotic about India. His younger brother Azhar is been missing since one year. The cops of Hyderabad arrested a dreadful ISI terrorist Masood. In a bid to get him released, the Pakistan authorities train Azhar (brother of Amjad) and send him across to Hyderabad to create riots and build communal tension. Azhar comes to Hyderabad and stays with his brother Amjad. Azhar's secret activities include devising and executing plans to release Masood.

Radha Krishna (Srikanth) is a sincere and efficient police officer. But he is very serious in nature and has enormous hatred towards Pakistan for the reasons best known to him.

The rest of the story includes how these three protagonists save the terrorist Masood from fleeing to Pakistan. And of course there is a 15 minutes flashback for Radha Krishna that involves his ladylove Swathy (Sonali Bendre) getting killed by the ISI guys.

Artists:

Srikanth: Srikanth played a full time serious role as an honest and powerful cop. There are good amount of stunts canned on him. He did a balanced action, as his character is a pretty serious one with less number of dialogues.

Prakash Raj: Prakash Raj has got more footage than any other character in this film. Though he sounded redundant at times, he did full justice to his role as a patriotic Muslim Indian.

Ravi Teja: This role of actor-wannabe is a tailor made one for Ravi Teja. He did extremely well in the scenes.

Raghu Babu: Raghu Babu (another son of actor Giri Babu) has been getting impact making roles now a days. In this film, he played the comic role of a typical PA (cum broker) in film industry. His getup and accent is extremely good.

Heroines: Sonali Bendre has a 15-minute role in this film and she is extremely sensuous in 'Nuvvu Nuvvu' song. Its sounds like she has dubbed her character in this film. She sounded decent. Sangeeta did a role of an innocent village belle who comes to Hyderabad in search of heroine chance in Telugu films. She realizes that it's not so easy and decides to sacrifice herself to a director in order to get heroine break (as per the suggestion of her mother). Kim Sharma played the role of cheerful girl. But there is no necessity for that role in this film.

Technical Departments

Story - Screenplay - direction: The basic storyline is about how three people from different walks of life and with different professions accidentally join in a mission to foil a terrorist activity. But Krishna Vamsi did lot of stuffing by inserting too many different threads. There are four heroes and four heroines. There is a love track for each couple. There is a comedy touch for the characters of Ravi Teja and Prakash Raj. In a bid to insert too many things in too little time, the director lost clarity. Screenplay of the film is loose. There is touch of Vamsi in few shots. But the grip on the pulse of audience is missing. His dig at the popular Telugu film heroes and 'Babu' culture in film industry is pretty good. The way he closed the character of Sangeeta is pretty realistic. But there is no relevance of Raviteja and Sangeeta characters to the main story line. Krishna Vamsi throws light on insecurity factor faced by Muslims in India and at the same time focused how some of Indian Muslims enjoy Pakistan winning over India in cricket matches. There is a verbal war between Prakash Raj and Srikanth over the greatness of Hinduism and Muslim religion in Indian context. But, people come to watch film for entertainment, but not for the heated verbal debates over burning issues. Krishna Vamsi also played anti-pakistani and anti-Muslim card like 'Gaddar' (Hindi film) to raise the emotions of the crowds. In order to put too many things in the film, Krishna Vamsi lost focus on straight narration and meandered over trivial issues.

Dialogues: Dialogues by Uttej are good in parts. The dialogues written for Ravi Teja that ridicules current hero system are hilarious. There is pretty good applause for two dialogues in the film that refers Pakistanis in unspeakable words (Pakistani *****kodukulu and Pakistani Madarchod).

Music: Songs by Devi Sri Prasad are good in the film. Picturization of 'Nuvvu Nuvvu' is very pleasant. All other songs also serve entertainment purpose. Rerecording of the film is good. Govinda Govinda song is hilarious.

Lyrics: Lyrics by Sirivennela are good. Especially the title track makes you sit and see what's happening on screen with reverence. Musugu Veyyoddu Manasu Meda song has typical Sirivennela kind of live-and-let-others-live philosophy. Nuvvu Nuvvu lyrics are very sensuous. Govinda Govinda lyrics by Shakti are good.

Photography: Photography for the film is decent. But I guess Bhoopati would have done a better job, if he were given more resources.

Analysis: First half of the film is decent. Second half is comparatively dull. When you watch a film and come out, you can say that you watched a film of a particular genre (like a love story, family cinema, youth film, comedy flick, mass masala etc). Though this film is made to represent the patriotic action film genre, Krishna Vamsi tried injecting all other five-genre elements. In that process, the patriotic aspect of the film did not get elevated. As a Telugu film, it's an average one. But for the standards of Krishna Vamsi it's a below average product.

KARTHAVYAM

Vijayashanti is an Indian actress who has starred in over 165 movies in 7 languages including Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi. She was born in Andhra Pradesh, India on June 24, 1964. She is credited as The Lady Superstar and The Action Queen of Indian Cinema. At the peak of her career, she was among the highest paid movie stars in India.
As an action heroine and mass entertainer

In the blockbuster movie 'Karthavyam' (1990), her electrifying performance as a tough cop (modelled after real-life supercop Kiran Bedi) won her the National Film Award from Indian Government and an Andhra Pradesh State award for best actress. The success of this movie saw her moving away from glamourous roles and limiting herself to tough lady roles.

In 1990, Kartavyam was dubbed into Tamil as 'Vijayanthi IPS' and its success brought her Superstardom in Tamil cinema as well. (It was also remade in Hindi as Tejaswini, with herself playing the lead role. As expected, Tejaswini did very well at the Hindi box-office). Though she limited herself to acting in Telugu movies, it did not stop her from being treated as a highly rated heroine in Tamil films. Following the success of Vijayanthi IPS, the producers of her films began releasing Tamil versions of her movies simultaneously with the Telugu versions. In 1992, she signed up for a Tamil film in almost a decade, opposite the Tamil superstar Rajanikanth. This movie, Mannan, went on to become one of the biggest hits in Rajanikanth's career. While it's the normal tendency to credit the success of Rajanikanth's movies to the actor himself, Mannan's credit went equally to Vijayashanti.

Story

Kalyana Ramudu (Venu) is a wedding planner, whose functions include erecting kalyana mandapam, decorating the marriage house, arranging musicians and cooking. During one such wedding function, the marriage is called off since the bridegroom elopes with a girl whom he is love with. Incidentally the bride is a dumb girl. Hence none of the relatives of that girl come forward to marry her. Kalyana Ramudu jumps into the scene and does the crisis management by asking his doctor brother (Raja Ravindra) to tie knot. Kalyana Ramudu falls in love with bride's sister Kalyani (Nikita). She also loves him but pretends herself to be in love with Rajesh, a pop singer who is also her uncle's son. Later on Rajesh reveals to Kalyana Ramudu that Kalyani is in love with Kalyana Ramudu.

When everything is going alright, the sister of Kalyani dies. Later an astrologer says to Kalyani's father that there is a curse of God on the vamsam of Kalyana Ramudu and all the women in their dynasty dies at an young age. After listening to this, Kalyani's father refuses to marry off his daughter to Kalyana Ramudu. Rest of the story is all about how all ends well!

Artists Performence

Venu: The characterization of Kalyana Ramudu suits the body language of Venu. He did it in his own style.

Nikita: She looked completely homely and beautiful in this film. She wore all traditional Indian dresses which added to her looks. She completely justified her role with a sensible portrayal.

Prabhu Deva: Prabhu Deva did a positive character in this film. He has a couple of songs for himself and entertained the crowds with his cool steps.

Others: Nazar did a pretty good character of heroines father. Suman played a role of character article and the brother of hero. Character artist Sana graduated from vadina characters to mother character in this film. MS Narayana's comedy as the drunkard pahilwan is a highlight of the film. After a long gap, Sunil got a full length comedy role that entertained everybody. Allu Rama Lingaiah did the role of hero's grand father. Devi Charan did a one minute comedy role in this film.

Technical Departments:

Story: Story by Jenny is a simple one with lots of twists involved towards the climax.

Screenplay - direction: Screenplay and taking of the director in the first half is very entertaining. However, he could not justify too many twists in the second half with a convincing reason. There is no justification for the scene in which nobody tries to prevent fire when Kalyani's sister accidentally sets herself afire. This particular scene comes as the main twist of the story and its not narrated in a convincing way. However, it's a neat work by G Ram Prasad with lots of situational comedy thrown in to it.

Music: Mani Sharma has provided music with his typical rich orchestraization. 4 of the five songs in this film are marriage songs. The theme chosen for 'Premante' song is pretty innovative. The background score is also good.

Dialogues: Marudhuri Raja has done pretty good work for this film. His pun-oriented dialogues are entertaining. There are some good and thought-provoking dialogues on love as well. Here are a couple of dialogues

1. Preminche Hakku Andariki Vuntundi - Kaani Premanu Ponde Adrustam Kondarike Vuntundi
2. Nammakam Leni Prema, Prema Leni Pelli Ekkuvakalam Nilabadavu.

Analysis:
First half of the film is very entertaining with lots of situational comedy thrown into it. The second half has become little slow with lots of twists inserted towards climax. The entire film is shown as a flashback with elder Venu narrating it to a few young lads. A good thing about this film is that there are no negative character and no stunts. Over all it's a minimum guarantee film that has fair chances to become a box office success. You can watch this film for the entertainment in first half.

KALIDASU(2008)

Sushant – grandson of ANR and Subba Rao (Prasad Art Pictures) – is making his debut as hero with the film Kalidasu. This film is releasing all over Andhra on 11 of April. Idlebrain.com had chitchat with the producers Chintalapudi Srinivas and Naga Suseela (daughter of ANR). Here are the excerpts of chitchat –

What is your reaction when Sushant expressed his desire to act in films?
Naga Suseela: Sushant has been a quite guy since childhood though he has been fascinated by films. I tried to discourage him when he expressed his willingness to act in films during his graduation time. I asked him to complete the graduation first. He asked me again after completing graduation and I had to honor my word.

What is the reason behind keeping your banner name as Sri Nag Corporation?
Srinivas: Sri stands for my name and Nag stands for Naga Suseela (also Nageswara Rao and Nagarjuna).

Why did you select Sushant as hero?
Srinivas: I was impressed by the show reel done on Sushant during his acting training days at Mumbai.

What is the involvement of Nagarjuna in this film?
Naga Suseela: Nagarjuna is there with us right from the start of the project. He is the one who okayed the storyline. He also gave a valuable suggestion about shooting. Since Sushant is new, Nagarjuna suggested us to split the entire shoot into six schedules and let each schedule take place for 15 days a month. It gives some time to Sushant to be more perfect in his work.

How is Sushant as an actor?
Srinivas: He worked like a veteran. He did an amazing job.
Naga Susheela: We observed improvement from day to day. .

Later on, it is revealed that Geetha suffers from blood cancer. She needs lots of money to get operated. Rest of the story is about how Johnny managed to get the money through fights to save Geetha.

Artists:

Pawan Kalyan: Pawan looks good in the get up of Johnny. He did extremely well in pathos scenes. His antics are very stylish in the beginning of the film. He did well in fights too. Pawan Kalyan looks rugged and manly with an exercised body.

Renu Desai: She is the perfect fit for the role of Geetha. She looks extremely homely in this film by wearing sarees and choodidaars. Her histrionics in hospital scenes are worth applauding.

Others: Devi Charan is impressive in the debut fight as Chinna Gouse. MS Narayana is good in the beginning of the film and became stale later. Mallikharjun did a good character role. Raghuvaran did the role of Pawan's father. Lalith Dubey did the role of English-speaking stepmother to Pawan Kalyan. Ali did a good role. Brahmaji did an unimportant role of police officer.

Technical Departments:

Story: There is no story in the film. Having the right kind of twist is very important for any story in the first half. But, the first half of this film is so plain that if they put 'The End' card during interval, it does not look odd. The first drawback of the film is lack of proper storyline.

Screenplay - Direction: Screenplay of 'Johnny' is pathetic. The scenic order is chaotic. Direction of the film is good in patches. The director did a sensible job when portraying the emotional scenes (from hero's side) in a proper way. The narration of the film is terribly slow.

Dialogues: I can't give a comment on these dialogues as most of the dialogues are not audible due to the 'spot dubbing technique' and other few dialogues can't be understood by the common Telugu viewer as they are written in Hyderabadi and Mumbayya Hindi.

Music: Background music of the film is incomplete. You can find some part of the film void of any background music. Three songs - Narazu kaaku, neelo nenoka sagamai and ee reyi teeyanidi - are good.

Other departments: Photography by Shyam Palav and Chota K Naidu is impressive. Editing by Yousuf Khan is not up to the mark. This film's length is almost 3 hours. Hence it makes you squirm in your seats. The local fights by Vijay and ring fights by international Ridley's team are good. The costumes of Pawan Kalyan are nice. These costumes suited his body language and his physique. Art by Anand Sai is good. Most of the interiors in this film are made with wood. The producer Allu Arvind could have taken more care in the script.

Analysis:
First half of the film is pretty slow. Second half is pathetic. There is no nativity in the film. The good points on the screen in this film are 3 songs, fights and the love track between Pawan and Renu in the first half. Pawan Kalyan lets the viewers down with his directorial capabilities. The main drawback of the film is lack of proper story and bad screenplay. One can watch this film with an academic interest to study how not to direct a film. This film has all style and no substance. Normal viewers can safely avoid watching this film.

JOHN-APPA-RAO

Venkat Kuchipudi is directing a film titled ‘John Appa Rao 40+’ with Krishna Bhagawan and Simran in the main leads. Venkat held a press meet to explain the progress. Here are the excerpts -

Krishna Bhagawan said, “I am not the kind of guy who jumps at hero offers as I know what I am and my limitations. But when Venkat Kuchipudi narrated me the story, I felt as if he had written in by keeping my strengths in mind. And when he told Simran is doing the heroine role, it was a shock of life time to me. This script has Bhagyaraja touch in it. It is a comedy film with some suspense element. I knew Venkat Kuchipudi even before I became busy as comedian. He called me long back to work as a dialogue writer for his script ‘Vamsi & Varma’.”

Story

Abhiram(Venky) is a fun loving guy staying with his parents in Europe. A bunch of 10 people won the contest of Thumps up, which gave them an opportunity to tour Europe. Uma (Soundarya) is one of the contest winners. Abiram likes Uma and acts as a tour companion for them during their stay in Europe. A shy Uma could not express her love towards him so she leaves a message in Abhiram's answering machine. But Abhiram could not listen to the message at the right time. Hence, Uma presumes that Abhiram does not love her and leaves back to India with her companions.

Abhiram, who happened to listen the message after Uma left, calls up Uma and make a contact with her. But it's too late for him, as the father of Soundarya (Prasad Babu) commits a marriage for her daughter with Purushottam (Surya), the son of main villain (Jaya Prakash).

On the other track, a parallel story is running in which Jaya Prakash and his gang of goons is searching for 'Rudrama Naidu'. When the father of Prasad Babu sees the photograph of Abhiram, he gets frieghtened and approach Jaya Prakash with the photograph. Jaya Prakash wants to eliminate 'Abhiram'.

When Abhiram comes to know that Uma may be forcibly getting married another guys, he decides to come to India to marry his sweetheart. Just when he comes of the airport, a gang that is after his life chases him and Uma. They (Abhiraam & Uma) could manage to slip off the goons and get ready to flee from India to Europe. During that time, goons again chased him and he is saved by Jhansi in a nick of time. She takes him to a hideout where a group of people hide.

They explain his about his flash back. He is the son of Mahadeva Naidu (Venky), who was the savior or Dalitulu and downtrodden people of 'Karamchedu'. He libarated the 'Dalitulu' in that area and he was killed by the villains, who are none but his relatives (Jaya Prakash). At the time of killing Rudrama Naidu (son) and Jhansi (daughter) are taken away by the lieutenants of Mahadeva Naidu so that they can be saved. At the time of killing Mahadeva Naidu swears that 'Rudrama Naidu' would come back and destroy the villains and save the poor people.

Rudrama Naidu, who is raised as 'Abhiraam', comes to know about the flash back and rest of the film is about how he takes the revenge.

Performance

Artists

Venky: Venky has done two roles as Mahadeva Naidu and Rudrama Naidu (aka Abhiraam). His has done justice to both the roles. But in his Abhiram role, he looked like has put on a few extra pounds of weight. His get-up as 'Mahadeva Naidu' is good. But his mannerisms are not different from earlier roles. His body language did not change for that character. In this film, when Venky come to stop Uma marriage, he utters a few ferocious dialogues that resemble Balayya dialogues of 'Samarasimha Reddy'. But Venky could not evoke any response from the viewers for the dialogues.

Soundarya: Soundarya played a glamour doll in this film. Her role is confined to first half. She hardly has some footage in the second half. Venky teases her in the film that she is fat Uma. Sounds like Venky is right in his judgment.

Bhanupriya: Bhanupriya has done the role of wife of 'Mahadeva Naidu'. He did her bit with full zest. And her role is very similar to her 'Ayodya Ramayya' role.

Technical Departments:

Dialogues: Paruchuri has given good dialogues for this film. But some of them may not be suitable for Venky.

Music: Music is a major letdown for this film. Vandemataram Sreenivas is given an opportunity to work with any of the top 4 heroes for the first time and he failed to make best out of it. Hen Keeravani and Mani Sharma has given an opportunity to work with the top 4 in the past with Kshanakshanam and Bavagaru Bagunnara, they delivered musical hits. On the top of it, 3 songs from the audio album are cut down and another song (solo by Vandemataram for 'Mahadeva Naidu' was introduced). There is no continuity and smoothness in the film.

Screenplay: Screenplay is bad in the second half. It's pretty ordinary.

Direction: N Shankar has failed to utilize opportunity to direct Venky. His handling of climax is of very bad taste. Even the comedy scene where LB Sriram does vulgar stuff is of poor taste. He handled well certain scenes of 'Mahadeva Naidu'. At the end of the film, he wrapped up the climax.

Production: D Suresh Babu, who has flair for youth films with perfect script, has erred beyond repair for this film. Looks like he got confused about the script of the film and produced a film of story that would suit for the people a couple decades back.

Analysis: First half of the film is ok. But the second half of the film is boring and as we reach the climax, the situation worsens. It's very hard to believe that Venky has chosen such a film at this point of his career. Venky, who won the hearts of everyone with sympathetic roles in Raja and Kalisundam Raa could not deliver goods when it comes to doing the revenge taking youngster role. At certain parts of the second half, you will get a feel like you are watching a Sri Hari film (those senseless stunts and exaggerated dialogues). There is similarity in the story of 'Ayodya Ramayya' and 'Jayam Manadera'. The much-hyped 'Matrix' time freeze effect is not effective and unimpressive in the film. This film may not do well in A centers. We have to wait and see how it's going to fare in B and C centers.
